WoW is a long-standing franchise with a massive fan base, but many of those fans have moved onto other things as the game, and business, seem to be teetering between modern and old rather than conceding that both need to change to survive.Legion is the sixth World of Warcraft expansion, revealed at gamescom 2015. Many were driven away from their products when the allegations and subsequent lawsuits hit, not wanting to contribute to bad business practices. There's a lot that needs to be reworked to bring World of Warcraft in line with modern MMOs, and Blizzard still needs to address its issues within. These are some of the more impactful changes coming, but it's unknown if there will continue to be tedious grinding or if leveling the new Drake mount will be the next Azerite necklace. Dragonflight will be focusing on the classic World of Warcraft lore of the Dragons and returning to their supposed ancestral home, the Dragon Isles. Players have gotten tired of villains growing in cosmic size, as well as some problematic retconning. The story will be taking a different direction too. Players will be able to fly almost immediately, and it will be a skill which is leveled rather than something gated behind achievements or more grinding. Professions are also getting a facelift with specialty paths and more relevant crafting, although the extent of this is yet to be seen.ĭragonflight will also be doing something completely different for flying, a highly debated topic in past expansions. This is something players have long wanted. To start, Talent trees are being brought back and diversified, which should give players more choice in playstyle. So far, Dragonflight appears to address these issues, hopefully moving the game forward. Players have also expressed a need for change in other areas of the game like professions, where few crafted items have value, and Talents, which have been so streamlined they leave little choice for character growth. World of Warcraft needs to evolve alongside gaming. Grinding has always been a staple of MMOs, whether its leveling or working towards rewards, but there are many ways to go about it now. Even when a player really commits to the grind and makes progress, the newest content is often time gated, which usually means waiting a week to be able to continue.

Players choose where to start and play through the story, then spend the rest of the time grinding factions, currency, and leveling equipment via world quests, while also pushing through a handful of mythic dungeons for more gear. Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands all have a similar flow.
